Could You Get Certified With A Course In Web Design?
Everyone expects to see a web site address when they look to find out about a company. All flourishing companies need a website in this day and age - they'd soon fall behind if they didn't. A business website is a shop window, an information portal, a sales tool and a product catalogue all rolled into one. It's very common now for people to use the Search Engines to find companies online when they want to buy something.
Greatly In Demand
As you might imagine, the huge rise in websites means a comparable rise in the need for people who can create them. Maybe you fancy yourself as a web designer.
To learn your trade and become certified you can train part-time at home on your computer, or part or full-time at college with a group of others. Have a good look at the various companies offering web design training. Get a feel for the quality of the training itself, and how you'd fit the different study methods into your current lifestyle.
The best training will provide you with some key competencies for the web design industry. It might be worth explaining first though that web development is a different discipline to web design.
The job of a web developer is to provide the programming code that makes sure a website can do what it's supposed to do. We're talking here about preparing for web design careers, which are more focused on all the visual aspects of a website.
Imaginatively Inspired
If you're innovative and artistic you could well be suited to web design. Plus it's very useful to be good with people, because you'll find there's a lot of contact with the customer. Most likely your clients will tell you about their ideas for the website they want. And then the designer has to build a site that is impressive, navigable, fit for purpose and all within the client's parameters. A good designer will also be able to advise and educate the client on the best tools to feature on their site within a certain budget.
Approved Career Programmes...
Most commercial Web Design courses train students to use a range of Adobe products. Becoming Adobe trained enables students to gain a number of Adobe certificates, which are universally acknowledged in business. Both Adobe Flash Creative Suite 4 and Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Suite 4 are practical products to get to grips with. Adobe abbreviate Creative Suite 4 to CS4 - make sure you don't register on a course still teaching CS3. An Adobe Dreamweaver training course will show you how to use professional tools to create stunning website designs. But to master animations and special effects you'll need to have Flash in there as well. Flash and Dreamweaver are collectively perceived to be the definitive tools for creativity on the web.
...And Qualifications
It's essential whilst doing your course that you prepare a portfolio of some of the designs you've created. This will stand you in good stead at interview. As Web Design is a very subjective discipline, a prospective employer will be most interested in seeing the standard of work that you can do. If you're planning to work for yourself, you may not need to take any professional certifications. However, if you do wish to become professionally qualified, your training should lead you to taking the Adobe Certified Expert certification, or the Adobe Certified Professional in either Dreamweaver, Flash or both.
Beat The Competition
If you only pick up skills to make your websites look funky and attractive, you're going to miss out on a lot of commercial opportunities. To really clinch the job or contract, we encourage you to choose a multi discipline course that embraces other subjects too. To start building up your skill set, look for a lesson in HTML and CSS to learn how the created code works. If you want your websites to be more than simple catalogues, you'll need to cover PHP Programming and dynamic HTML. Next comes e-commerce - where financial interactions need to happen via the website. And to conclude the list for now, a requirement that's very overlooked by many is SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation.
So many new websites fail because too few people can find them - that's why it's highly critical to learn how to optimise them, so they get in front of the customers. Even the best looking site in the world won't be a commercial success if customers don't know that it exists!
Dynamically Designed!
The growth of the internet has meant there are many opportunities in the Web Design industry. Retraining to pick up the necessary skills will mean that you can be a part of this fast-moving industry. Website building is evolving constantly - video is now commonplace, and it won't be long before we see full screen three dimensional presentations on sites. People who get involved and excited by these changes will be in cutting-edge work for the rest of their careers.
